Beneath the interface

project overview

This project uses typography and interface design as tools to reveal hidden systems of control embedded in everyday digital interactions. The exhibition unfolds as a journey from surface-level familiarity into the backend logic that shapes the illusion of choice.

Typography | Illusion of Choice

Use typography as both tool and critique, mimicking systems of trust (corporate UI, bureaucracy, authority aesthetics) while subtly breaking them through distortion, layering, restricted legibility, and contradictory prompts.
Spatially, divide the exhibition into controlled “rooms” that behave like interfaces.
The strategy makes viewers feel the illusion of choice by placing them inside a typographic system that guides, misleads, restricts, and reveals itself.

The project positions graphic design as a behavioural system, critiquing the myth of neutral interfaces and exposing how typography and UI shape choice, power, and control. It situates the designer as an active agent within ethical, algorithm-driven systems, not just a visual stylist.
